The reason I spend so much time researching and creating an accurate scale drawing for my color profiles is if the drawing has dimensional errors, the aircraft’s markings will not line up where they should. Either the marking will have to be ‘fudged’ and stretched or contorted so it hits the proper panel lines and other alignment points, or it will simply be a case of ‘good enough’ and it will not align where it should as it did on the real aircraft. As you can see above, the time spent creating my P-51B scale drawing from original manufacturer blueprints was well spent. The ‘DING HAO’ marking hits all key spots (panel lines, fasteners, etc.) about as perfectly as I could hope for and will be accurate in my finished profile.
